WoW is aimed at the general masses, not for gamers with high end computers. It's easy to render something like that when you're doing it on such a small scale (well, when I say "easy" I mean relative to a game with as much world to it as WoW). Also, all that was rendered was the environment. The video clips only rendered a tiny, tiny portion of WoW. From the little I can understand, there are multiple good reasons as to why WoW will proably never update its "graphics" to the extent shown in the video clips. Not sure where to begin, and I'm far from an authority on the subject. Take a screenshot in each zone and ask yourself if the graphics have improved. Go to 3 similar zones, like Val Sharah, Sholozar Basin and Feralas. The amount of people that can actually run ultra settings in wow right now and maintain 60 fps in raids is pretty low and you want to decrease that number further? Come on. "But they can just play on low graphics." Blizzard tends to hate developing stuff that small portions of their playerbase use. WoW already runs like shit without a great CPU, considering the fact a giant portion of the playerbase plays on laptops, shitty pcs from 2008 and imacs, improving the graphics would instantly shut this portion of their consumers out of their product. Its massively resource intensive, not just for Blizzard but for their users' computers. Hop on a holy paladin and cast some flash of lights or holy lights, then hop on a holy priest and cast some flash heals and prayer of healings.ī. Toggle 'old models' in the system settings and compare the new to old. Look at trees in elewyn forest and compare them to trees in val sharah. Water used to be nothing more than a flat surface that looked like tinfoil, not it has ripples and waves and shit. Shadows used to be nothing more than dark circles below your feet, now they're fully dynamic.
